The best snacks for weight loss: Low-fat snacks that satisfy

Losing weight is tough.

There’s more to getting that awesome set of rock-hard abs than committing to a regular exercise routine or counting the calories in your daily meals.

You also need to think about things like the calories in your Friday night drinks, and the fat waiting in your 11am snack.

The good news? There are ways that you can make losing weight a little easier.

Knowing how to identify the best snacks that leave you satisfied and happy when you’re struggling to wait for your next mealtime makes a huge difference.

Today, we’re going to cover some of the leading low-fat snacks that will eliminate your hunger pangs without adding to your spare tyre

Let’s get started.

1. Nuts

Nuts are kind of a mixed bag health-wise.

On one hand, they’re one of the best snacks on the market. Plus, they’re easy to carry with you wherever you go.

On the other hand, it’s easy to continue eating nuts for longer than you intended. Remember, nuts are pretty high in fat, so you do need to watch your portion sizes.

The good news is that a handful of mixed nuts, including cashews, walnuts, peanuts, or anything else you fancy, can reduce your risk of various illnesses, including heart disease and depression

What’s more, since nuts are one of the most filling snacks, it’s less likely you’ll walk away feeling keen to continue your binge.

2. Yogurt and berries

A bag of mixed nuts might satisfy your need for crunch when it comes to choosing low-fat snacks. However, it won’t satisfy your craving for sweetness.

If you’re craving a dose of sugar, a plain Greek yogurt with a handful of berries will give you one of the best healthy, snacks around. This mixture ensures you get plenty of protein, potassium, and calcium.

Plus, thanks to the berries, you get an extra dose of antioxidants too.

We’d recommend choosing blueberries of one of your berries of choice if possible – they’re low in calories but rich in awesome nutrients, ideal for filling snacks.

3. Peanut butter and apple slices

Peanut butter is one of the most popular filling snacks of choice for athletes and those looking to lose weight. This tasty treat gives you a bunch of support for your HDL (good) cholesterol. That means great things for your ticker.

Just remember that peanut butter is pretty rich in calories too. That’s why it’s essential to have it with something low in fat, like a slice of apple, or even a stick of celery.

Mixing the crunch of an apple or celery stick with the smoothness of peanut butter also gives you a lot of variety. Just like sex, good snacks are better when they offer a range of sensations.

4. Kale chips/crisps

If you’re looking for the satisfying crunch and salty taste that you would usually get from a bag of potato chips, it might be a good idea to switch things up.

Although crisps are pretty satisfying, they’re not one of the most filling snacks. On the other hand, kale is incredibly healthy, and it’s packed full of fiber to make you feel fuller too.

You can find a bunch of vegetable crisps in stores today.

5. Dark chocolate

Here at Blitz’d, we’re big believers in the idea of everything in moderation. If you want to lose weight fast, then you shouldn’t have to give up everything you enjoy

If you’re looking for a delicious snack that mimics your favourite items from the vending machine, try some dark chocolate and a handful of almonds.

Dark chocolate is excellent for reducing blood pressure and protecting your heart, as long as it contains about 70% cocoa.

Almonds are packed full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats too, so they can support your heart and help with blood sugar control. Studies have even shown that almonds may help you to lose weight by reducing appetite

6. Mozzarella and cherry tomatoes

Craving pizza?

Of course, you are – it’s one of the most popular foods out there!

Unfortunately, pizza is also rich in all the stuff that builds on your belly blubber.

The good news is that you can have a pizza-style experience with these quick, healthy snacks. Just slice up some cherry tomatoes and add some slithers of low-fat mozzarella to the mix.

The tomatoes will give you a hefty dose of vitamin C, lycopene, and potassium. Adding these fruits to your meals helps to reduce your risk of heart problems

On the other hand, mozzarella has plenty of B12, calcium, and protein in it. It can also reduce your heart disease risk by increasing your good cholesterol levels too.

7. Cottage cheese and flax seeds

Sticking with the cheese vibe, let’s go for an entirely different set of flavours.

Combining cottage cheese with cinnamon and flax seeds can give you one of the most filling snacks available, boosted with conjugated linoleic acids, which are great for your health.

Flax seeds are excellent for blood sugar control and weight loss, and some studies also suggest that they might be useful for reducing the risks of some kinds of cancer.

Even better news? That dose of tasty cinnamon can improve gut health and reduce blood sugar too.

8. Hard-boiled eggs

Okay, so they’re not the most exciting low-fat snacks in the world, but hard-boiled eggs are a classic option for a reason.

Not only do hard-boiled eggs deliver cheap healthy snacks, but they’re packed full of vitamins K2 and B12. On top of that, you get some extra protein in your diet, which is handy if you’re trying to build some extra muscles.

Because hard-boiled eggs are some of the most filling snacks around, they can also reduce your risk of snacking later on. Two large eggs add up to about 140 calories and 13 grams of protein!

9. Chia pudding

Chia seeds are packed full of fiber, which means that they’re great for anyone looking for filling snacks. On top of that, if you’re following a keto or vegan diet, you can still eat chia seeds without breaking any rules.

Chia seeds benefit from being high in antioxidants that improve heart health and reduce inflammation. Additionally, though they’re not exactly full of flavor, they do deliver an interesting texture that can be very appealing to some.

If the natural flavour doesn’t do it for you, add a sprinkling of cinnamon.

10. Beef jerky

Beef jerky is usually seen as an American snack, but it’s gaining a lot of attention in other regions throughout the world too.

The important to remember when you’re shopping for quick healthy snacks in the jerky aisle is that you need to avoid anything with too many preservatives.

There are some jerkies on the market that are packed full of preservatives. Those aren’t the ones that you want. Instead, you’ll need to stick with grass-fed beef with plenty of omega-3 fatty acids.

If you’re working on building muscle, you should also look into the amount of protein in each piece of jerky you eat too.

11. Whey protein shakes

Speaking of protein, one of the best healthy low-calorie snacks that any guy can add to his routine is a whey protein snack. Sure, you don’t get something you can crunch or chew, but you do get a product that’s excellent for filling your stomach.

Studies have shown that whey protein is excellent for helping you to lose fat, gain muscle, and improve body composition too

Many excellent whey protein supplements are available online, and you can find options in different flavours to suit your tastes. If you’re not sure about shakes, it might be best sticking to vanilla to begin with.

12. Turkey roll-ups

Compared to some of the other cheap healthy snacks we’ve covered here so far, turkey roll-ups need a tiny bit more prep work.

The good news is that if you’re willing to spend a few seconds rolling each morning, you can get plenty of delicious protein in a snack that will stop your stomach from rumbling.

Turkey is brimming with great protein, which helps to preserve muscle mass and keep you burning calories, even during periods of digestion

Add a slither of cream cheese in the middle of your turkey roll-up, and a slice of cucumber for some extra texture.

13. Dried coconut

Coconut is one of the best snacks for those looking to reduce their bad carb intake and improve their health. It’s portable, filling, and brimming in medium-chain fats that help to promote weight loss by increasing the performance of your metabolism.

When shopping at your local health food store, make sure that you get the unsweetened version of dried coconut to keep your calories low. Also, stay away from anything that’s covered in chocolate – that should go without saying.

14. Olives

Olives aren’t everyone’s favourite food, but they’re good for your killer six-pack.

These foods are a staple of the popular Mediterranean diet, known for being rich in monounsaturated fats, and brimming with heart-healthy antioxidants.

The plant compounds in olives reduce inflammation, insulin resistance, and cancer risk too!

Opt for smaller olives if you can. The less you’re eating in terms of mass, the fewer calories you’ll be adding to your diet.

15. Spicy avocado

Finally, this option goes out to all you hipsters out there.

Avocados have quickly gained steam as one of the most satisfying and nutritious health snacks on the market. Research tells us that they reduce your bad cholesterol, eliminate the symptoms of arthritis, and can even protect you from sun damage

Sprinkle half of an avocado with some salt and cayenne pepper and chow down. You can take an Instagram pic first if you want to.
