CBD For Anxiety

Good vibes: Does CBD help with anxiety?

Suffering from a pounding heart and sweaty palms?

It’s not just first dates and meetings with the boss that leaves us with chattering teeth and a dry mouth. Anxiety can strike at just about any time, for a bunch of different reasons.

While most guys prefer to ignore their anxiety or pretend it doesn’t exist – it’s actually way more common than you might think. Around one in thirteen people worldwide are living with anxiety disorder, according to the latest figures.

That means that it’s one of the most common mental health issues in the world.

The question is – what can you do about it?

Sure, you could try anxiety medications designed to slow your heart rate and calm your thoughts. However, most of the time, those medications come with problematic side effects, like tiredness, trouble concentrating, or even reduced libido.

Fortunately, there could be a better way.

Research into CBD oil for anxiety is quickly showing that cannabidiol could be the key to controlling your emotions, the natural way.

CBD oil and anxiety: Making the connection

There’s a good chance you’ve already heard of CBD by now.

It’s a pretty common solution to a range of problems in the modern world, used to deal with everything from stress, to chronic pain. Increasingly, studies are showing that CBD and anxiety could be a fantastic pair.

CBD works by interacting with something called your endocannabinoid system. That’s a big fancy word that refers to a system that affects everything from your mood to your digestion. Heck, your ECS can even dictate whether you have a good night’s sleep.

The human body naturally produces substances called endocannabinoids, which regulate functions like mood, memory, behaviour, and appetite. CBD is just another substance that can also bind to the receptors in your body, regulating the same functions.

Sound too geeky? CBD makes your happy chemicals work better.

With a regular dose of CBD, you can eliminate issues like serotonin deficiency, overcome feelings of pain, and even improve the way that your mind and body respond to stress.

Although the way that CBD for anxiety works requires further investigation, there are plenty of people who swear by their daily dose of CBD.

Does CBD help with anxiety? The research

Now, before you get excited thinking that we’re advocating a regular joint to help you chill out every day, it’s worth noting that CBD oil for anxiety isn’t the same as cannabis. Marijuana is made up of a bunch of different components, and CBD is just one of them.

It’s not the substance that causes psychoactive responses – that’s THC. So, you shouldn’t expect to feel high, euphoric or spend the day staring at your hand.

However, CBD can help to calm your nerves and improve your mood.

To explain how CBD for anxiety works, we need to take a closer look at the research.

For instance, the National Institute on Drug abuse found that CBD can help to reduce stress in animals, making it perfect for the treatment of generalised anxiety disorder.

CBD can also assist people with other forms of anxiety too, like PTSD or social anxiety disorder. In 2011, a group of researchers looked at CBD’s impact on people with SAD (social anxiety). Participants took 400mg of CBD a day or a placebo. The people using CBD experienced significantly reduced anxiety levels

Researchers are going beyond finding the answer to “Does CBD help with anxiety” too.

We’re also beginning to discover that this substance is fantastic for other neurological disorders too.

In 2017, a review on CBD and psychiatric disorders found that CBD could help with a range of issues, including depression – but the experts felt more research was needed.

In 2016, a study also found that CBD could deliver antipsychotic effects for people with schizophrenia. Cool stuff, right?

How to use CBD oil for anxiety

So, how do you use CBD oil for anxiety?

Well, that all depends on you.

The good news is that you don’t need to smoke it – so that’s a pretty huge plus.

However, you do have to figure out the right dose for you. Chugging oil straight out of the bottle might not cause any super dangerous side effects, but it’s likely to cause an expensive case of the runs.

Doctors can often help you figure out a good CBD dose for anxiety. They can even suggest the best CBD oil for anxiety based on what they’ve heard from other patients.

Just keep in mind that it’s often hard to find a good level of pure CBD that’s capable of replicating the results we see in clinical trials.

It’s also worth noting that when it comes to CBD oil for anxiety, it’s best to start slow and work your way up. Though CBD is pretty safe, according to regulatory authorities – it can cause side effects.

The last thing you want is to think you’re treating your anxiety and end up with a hefty dose of diarrhoea and sickness instead.

Starting slow reduces your risks of:

  • Bowel movement issues
  • Fatigue and exhaustion
  • Changes in appetite
  • Changes in weight
  • Sickness or nausea

Oh, keep in mind that CBD for anxiety can also interact with other medications and supplements that you’re using. Use caution if you’re using meds like blood thinners, as they could have an impact on your ability to metabolise drugs.

Different types of CBD for anxiety

Another thing to keep in mind when using CBD oil for anxiety is that it comes in different forms.

Like with most health and fitness strategies, using CBD properly starts with getting the right education. Just like you need to figure out how to use supplements properly if you want them to turbo-charge your next workout, you need get your head around CBD too.

For instance, CBD oil for anxiety comes in many different forms.

The most common option is a tincture that you drip right under your tongue to get the desired effects. You can also add drops of CBD for anxiety into your water bottle when you’re heading to the gym. That’s a great way to get some relaxation into your day and stay hydrated at the same time.

For those of you who love vaping, you can also try CBD oils in your vape pens.

While we’re still not sure for certain how safe vaping is, many people find that inhaling their CBD oil helps them to get quicker results when they’re struggling with anxiety.

That’s probably because drugs can get into your bloodstream faster when you inhale them, compared to when you’re just digesting something.

You can even get CBD for anxiety that comes in the form of creams that you rub directly onto your skin like a moisturizer – or edibles.

Unfortunately, we’re not talking pot brownies here.

CBD edibles usually come in the form of gummies and sweets that you can suck or chew to get a quick source of relief. However, manufacturers are quickly discovering that CBD can be added to virtually every product you can think of.

These days, we’ve got everything from CBD toothpicks and facemasks, to CBD lube to choose from.

It’s up to you how you decide to experiment – just make sure you do your research.

Looking at reviews from other customers and regulatory authorities will help you to make the best choice about your CBD.

Is CBD good for anxiety? Finishing thoughts

Ultimately, we probably wouldn’t recommend ditching your prescribed anxiety medication for CBD straight away. However, if you’re not willing to try the conventional medication route yet, and you need something in your routine that helps to take the edge off, then CBD could help.

Most people take around 10-100mg of CBD every day when they get started, and the FDA considers this dosage to be pretty safe. There’s no risk of addiction, very few side effects, and nothing to lose by giving CBD a chance.

However, there’s also no guarantee that CBD will work for you.

While some people do get great results, others don’t – that’s just life.
