Best Electric Scooter

5 of the best electric scooters for adults: Rediscover your inner child

Let’s be honest, walking is for chumps.

Leaving the car at home so you can cut down on fuel emissions earns you big man points in our opinion.

But most of us don’t enjoy trudging through the dreary streets of the UK to work every morning. Not only is it tiring, cold, and wet – but it’s just plain boring.

So, why not inject a little more fun into your morning commute?

Research into electric engine design means that manufacturers have been able to create bigger, stronger, and more amazing scooters than ever before.

These devices aren’t just reserved for lucky kids who want a new way to get to school. There are also electric scooters out there that are designed specifically for adults too.

Not only will these awesome products help you to get to work faster when it’s drizzly outside, but let’s face it – they’ll give you a fun trip to look forward to every day.

Let’s take a look at some of the best adult electric scooter models that money can buy. Segway Ninebot

1. Segway Ninebot KickScooter ES2

Yep, we’re talking about that Segway.

If you’re on the hunt for an electric scooter that’s refined, practical, and even a little stylish, then this is the product for you.

One of the most advanced electric scooters for adults in the UK today, the Segway Ninebot comes with a total speed of 20 km/h, which is a lot faster than walking.

The Segway electric scooter delivers a slick and durable ride, perfect for the businessman on the go – or even just parents that want to keep up with their kids.

There’s a foldable design, which makes it easier to store your device when it’s not in use, plus you get 2 years of warranty support from the Segway team.

Probably one of the most impressive things about this scooter is that it charges pretty quickly.

You can get a full charge in around 3 hours, and you’ll be able to cover around 27 miles with the electricity that you collect.

Features include:

  • 2-year warranty
  • IP54 water resistance
  • Trip metrics app
  • All-round active lighting
  • Cruise control
  • Independent front and rear suspension

On top of that, while a lot of adult electric scooter models look like glorified kids’ toys, that isn’t the case with the Segway.

This is a device that you know was created specifically for an adult, with a stylish matte black finish that’s delightfully simple.

Pros:

  • Stylish and sophisticated
  • Good top speed
  • Plenty of battery life
  • Water-resistant
  • Great app included

Cons:

  • Relatively expensive
  • Could be a little more exciting to look at

2. Xiaomi Mijia M365

Here, we’re looking at the global version of the Xiaomi for our list of the best electric scooter options in the UK market.

The global version comes with 2 spare tires, just in case anything happens to your first set and a UK adapter for charging.

Although the speed of the Xiaomi isn’t the fastest around, it’s still a lot better than walking. You’ll be able to achieve about 15 mph – provided that you’re not going uphill.

The cool think about this product is that you can keep an eye on how fast you’re going with an LCD, and you can double-check how much battery you’ve got left too.

That’s useful if you’re not sure whether you need to recharge your scooter while you’re at the office.

Speaking of the battery, it’s pretty impressive, offering coverage of up to 18 miles.

Features include:

  • Smart app for tracking your journeys and health
  • 4 LED lights for battery capacity
  • Quick folding and portable design
  • IP54 water-resistant
  • Rear and front safety lights
  • Dual brake system
  • Intelligent BMS battery management
  • Kinetic energy recovery system

Although this adult electric scooter is a lot of fun on its own, we think that one of the features that really makes it more compelling is the fact that it comes with a convenient app to track everything from how far you’ve gone, to how many calories you’re burning.

It’s also good to know that you’re getting a bunch of safety features built-in, like short-circuit protection.

Pros:

  • Easy to fold and transport
  • Battery indicator light
  • Excellent app included
  • Kinetic energy recovery system
  • Various safety features

Cons:

  • Little slower than some alternatives
  • Not the most attractive

3. Phaewo electric scooter

If you’ve got a slightly longer commute than most, then the best electric scooter for you is likely to be the one that can cover the most ground.

This Phaewo scooter can manage up to 25+ km on a single charge, so it goes a little further than some of the other options that we’ve looked at so far.

There are two-speed modes to choose from, with the lower option giving you more endurance in exchange for speed.

However, if you want to go at full pelt, you can manage up to about 15mph, which is about average for today’s electric scooters.

Like many options for adults, this product comes with a set of solid wear-proof tires, so you can continue to use it day after day.

Additionally, there’s a handy portable design so you can keep it with you near your desk at work without taking up too much space.

Features include:

  • Up to 30km of travel on a single charge
  • 15mph speed capacity
  • 2 speed options
  • Smart control design
  • 8.5 inch solid tires
  • Advanced security features
  • Front and rear LED lights
  • Dual brake system
  • Durable on rainy days

The front and rear lights on this electric scooter for adults make it great for those winter mornings and afternoons in the UK when it can be hard to find a shred of sunlight.

Additionally, we’re a fan of the option to switch to cruise mode if you’re not in a hurry to get anywhere.

Pros:

  • Really solid and durable tires
  • Option of two speeds to choose from
  • Long-range battery life
  • Excellent dual braking system
  • High-quality motor

Cons:

  • Kind of bulky and unattractive
  • Not the fastest electric scooter we’ve seen
  • No fitness app included

4. Megawheels S1 electric scooter

Okay, so the name “Megawheels” does make it sound like this is an electric scooter for kids – but we’re pretty sure that it’s safe for adults to use too.

The company advertises with pictures of fully-grown adults using it – so don’t worry too much about that.

This is a great electric scooter for people who want to get from A to B without spending a fortune.

The powerful motor will give you plenty of oomph – with a speed of up to 14mph – just a little lower than some of the other average-speed electric scooters that we’ve looked at so far.

Although you can only get a range of about 15km out of this model, that also means that you only need to charge it for a couple of hours, so it could be useful if you want to cut down on the amount of electricity you’re using.

We also like the fact that you can choose from a range of colour finishes, although most do look a little childish.

Features include:

  • Various safety features included
  • Height adjustable for children and adults
  • Aluminium alloy construction
  • Lightweight and portable
  • Dual brake system
  • High-quality materials throughout
  • 5000 mAH battery
  • Low charging time
  • 250W brushless motor

We would have preferred the wheels to be a little bulkier on this device, as they felt a little flimsy at first try.

However, overall, the Megawheels product performs well – and if you don’t like it, you can always give it to your kids.

Pros:

  • Affordable pricing
  • Good capacity battery
  • Powerful motor
  • Durable and lightweight
  • High-level security features

Cons:

  • A little childish in design
  • Flimsy feeling wheels
  • Not the fastest electric scooter

5. Mtricscoto electric scooter

We’re not sure how to pronounce the name of the brand behind this adult electric scooter. Although we’re willing to ignore that fact because of how affordable this item actually is.

Once again, it’s not the fastest electric scooter that we’ve ever seen, with a speed that goes up to about 14mph. However, it’s more than enough to speed up your morning commute.

The scooter can accomplish about 12km in total when it’s fully charged, and it can perform pretty well on slopes too – which we couldn’t really say for the Segway.

The dual brake system gives you some excellent peace of mind while you ride, and the portable folding design means that the device is easy to store when not in use.

Coming in at just under £200, this is one of the cheapest-full size adult scooters that we’ve seen so far, and it’s certified to some of the highest safety standards.

Features include:

  • Range of three height options to choose from
  • Dual brake system
  • LED lights
  • Shock absorbers throughout
  • Portable folding design
  • High-performance speed
  • Can manage up to 12km in range
  • Comes with a safety guarantee
  • Sleek design in a range of colours

Although at first glance, this adult electric scooter just looks like any other scooter, we don’t mind that fact.

If you’re not something for something that draws attention to you wherever you go, this could be the perfect option for you.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and portable
  • 3 height options
  • Guarantee included
  • Dual brake system for safety
  • Very affordable

Cons:

  • No app included
  • A little basic in design

Choosing the best electric scooter

Ultimately, choosing the ideal electric scooter for an adult is a personal process.

Depending on your needs, the right product might not be the fastest electric scooter or the one with the most high-tech gadgets.

You might just be looking for something basic, like the Mtricscoto, which can get you to where you need to be without breaking the bank.

On the other hand, if you are looking for something that offers a more all-around impressive experience, then you can’t go wrong with the range from Segway.

We love the fact that this product, and the Xiaomi both come with their own smartphone apps to help you track your journey and your energy usage. It just makes the thought of getting out on your scooter more appealing!

Just remember to check the guidelines for scooter usage in your location before you buy one of these products.

Under UK law, most electric scooters aren’t legal for street use unless they’re properly registered. It can be a little complicated to figure out exactly where you can use these devices.

Happy riding.
